community of practice

“A community of practice is a group of people informally bound together by shared expertise and passion for a joint mission... People and organizations within a community of practice share their experiences in free-flowing, creative ways that foster new approaches to problems...”
- Harvard Business Review: Jan-Feb 2000

Hospitals used to consider diabetes care only in terms of outpatient education. The work primarily involved one or two departments, and didn’t address inpatient care.

But we now know that up to 40% of the patients in a hospital have diabetes, and they are located hospital-wide. This requires involvement from many departments to effectively manage patients with this disease. And one of the biggest obstacles hospitals face is the difficulty of getting departments throughout the hospital to coordinate efforts.

The ediba® team builds a community of practice, bringing together departments from throughout the hospital / health system, and demonstrating the important role each plays in fighting the disease.
