You will work with certified diabetes educators -- a nurse and a dietitian -- who can answer questions about your specific needs and design a specialized program to help you control your diabetes. Working closely with your physician, these experts will develop a plan of care customized to your lifestyle and your specific medical needs.
Specialized training is also offered in a group setting, allowing you to talk with others who understand your concerns... because they’re living with diabetes themselves. These classes are covered by many insurance plans.
- Type 2 Class - For those newly diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes (non-insulin dependent), or those who have had no training in managing diabetes. This is also a good refresher course for the most current information on diabetes. The program includes seven hours of training with another hour of personalized follow-up with certified diabetes educators.
- Gestational Diabetes - Women who have been diagnosed with gestational diabetes (during pregnancy) can participate in a two-hour small group program or individual sessions, and an hour of follow-up with certified diabetes educators.
- Insulin Management - Click here for more information on special programs for those using insulin and insulin pumps.
- Outpatient Insulin Program Type 1 or Type 2 - These individualized programs are designed for people who have just been diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes, or those with Type 2 requiring insulin. The basic knowledge and skills needed to begin insulin therapy without hospitalization are covered.
- “AIM” (Advanced Insulin Management) - This is a personal program for those ready for advanced training in insulin therapy, and who are moving to intensive insulin therapy using basal and bolus insulins with multiple injections.
- Insulin Pump Program - This program provides training on use of a continuous subcutaneous insulin infusion system (insulin pump). Six to nine hours of training, in small groups or individual sessions, are provided by certified pump trainers.
