You will work with diabetes educators -- a nurse and a dietitian -- who can answer questions about your specific needs and design a specialized program to help you control your diabetes. Working closely with your physician, these experts will develop a plan of care customized to your lifestyle and your specific medical needs.
Specialized training is also offered in a group setting, allowing you to talk with others who understand your concerns... because they’re living with diabetes themselves. These classes are covered by many insurance plans.
- Type 2 Class - For those newly diagnosed with type 2 diabetes or those who have had no training in managing diabetes. This is also a good refresher course for the most current information on diabetes.
- Gestational Diabetes - Women who have been diagnosed with gestational diabetes (during pregnancy) can participate in a small group program or individual sessions.
- Outpatient Insulin Program Type 1 or Type 2 - These individualized programs are designed for people who have just been diagnosed with type 1 diabetes, or those with type 2 requiring insulin. The basic knowledge and skills needed to begin insulin therapy without hospitalization are covered.
- Advanced Insulin Management-"AIM" - This program provides advanced training in ntensive insulin therapy using basal and bolus insulins with multiple injections.
- Insulin Pump Program - This program provides training on use of a continuous subcutaneous insulin infusion system (insulin pump).
